PTA/PTSA Preparedness Chair Information

Preparedness for emergencies and disasters, as well as the prevention of accidents is a serious concern of those who care for children in the home, at school, and in the community. Activities to promote safety, injury prevention and emergency preparedness can be incorporated in all PTSA/PTA interests.

When it comes to school safety and emergency preparedness; all aspects of planning, execution, corrective actions, documentation, supplies, and training are the school’s and school district’s responsibility.  The PTSA/PTA  plays a SUPPORTING ROLE; we can help the district, administrators, staff, emergency coordinators, nurses and principals with their permission. Opportunities may include fund raising, supporting grant requests, parent education, observing/participating in school drills, purchasing supplies, inventory audits, restocking, disposal, overall organizing, documenting, newsletters and collaborating with other E-Prep chairs in your school feeder pattern.

This toolkit is designed to help you assess your Schools Emergency Supplies and give PTA chairs support if your PTSA/PTA chooses to provide funding and resources. 

Sharing PTA / PTSA / School Districts

The combination of internal and external bench-marking helps to identify the most important gaps between an organization’s current state and where it wants to be, helping to create both a road map and a plan for change.  We encourage our parent leaders to visit other councils, PTA's and School Districts. Explore what others are doing in the area of Safety, Security and Emergency Preparedness and bring home new approaches and methods. Identify best practices and ensure we capture them on our Success Stories page and this page. ​
