The goal of our Outreach committee is to build practices that more effectively extend Council’s support to the PTAs in Northshore School District in helping them connect with their communities. You can read a draft of the committee's objectives HERE. This is a working document and will change at the discretion of the committee members. The goal of the Inclusion committee is to focus on how a PTA can look at their internal practices through a lens that includes historically marginalized and underrepresented populations, including people of different races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders, sexual orientations and socioeconomic barriers. With the creation of this new committee, the work that both our former DEI chair and Special Education Representative Chair positions focused on will not go away but will instead move under this broader committee so that a concentrated effort could be made to reach more groups in our district. You can read a draft of this committee's objectives HERE. This is a working document and will change at the discretion of the committee members. Since the September meeting adjourned, members of Council have received feedback about the naming of the Inclusion Committee. We are taking this feedback seriously and are open to suggestions for a name that better fits the goals of this committee without any marginalized group feeling excluded. Please take a moment to share your ideas on the naming of this new committee by filling out our feedback form. As a membership organization, our local PTA voting delegates always have the opportunity to modify our Standing Rules, including the names of committees, at a membership meeting. Our Council agrees that perception of words is important. Diversity and Equity as well as the Inclusion of all races, ethnicities, religions, abilities, genders, sexual orientations, and socioeconomic groups are important to us, our PTAs, in NSD, and in the world. We need volunteers from the community to be a part of these two committees and to keep us accountable for following through with the work we want each committee to achieve. If you are interested in volunteering for any of our committees, please fill out our interest form. We are excited about the expanded work that these committees could accomplish. With your help and partnership, we can do great things! Questions? Reach out to our Council president at [email protected].

Voting Delegates: During the 46th annual Washington State PTA Legislative Assembly, delegates will decide the public policy positions that guide state and local advocacy work for WSPTA and its associated local PTAs and councils. To learn more, visit the 2024 Voting Information page that has been created to help delegates prepare for the caucusing and general sessions. About Legislative Assembly: The Washington State PTA legislative platform is a two-year platform to mirror the Washington state legislative cycle. On the even-numbered years, the new platform is voted on by members at the legislative assembly in the fall. The top five issues become our short-term platform and consist of our priority issues when advocating throughout the year. Other issues are placed on an “also supported” list. Learn about WSPTA's current legislative priorities and other supported issues by clicking here. It will be an incredible weekend of advocacy, education, and networking, and of course, the important work of debating and voting on additions and updates to our legislative platform. This is an amazing opportunity to connect with PTA members and advocates statewide. Check out the Legislative Assembly web page to learn more about this year's event. More on Advocacy:

Questions about planning your first general membership meeting of the year? Contact Council - We are here to help! The 2024-2025 school year is underway and Northshore Council PTSA leaders are looking forward to another amazing year of PTA! We would like to start this year off by introducing you to Council’s President: Grace Jurado. Over the past five years, we have seen Northshore PTAs continually adapt to unforeseen challenges, changing the ways we can fulfill our missions. Council leaders continue to be impressed and inspired with the way we have seen our local PTAs adapt, come up with new ideas and build stronger PTAs and communities. This year presents a new set of challenges as we all learn to master a new membership database and as our schools reel from budget cuts, creating more requests from PTAs. One thing we on Northshore Council know is that our local PTAs are masters at being #PTAFlexible and we will continue to strengthen our connections with our communities and with each other. We also know that no one has all the answers, nor is there only one way to do things. For this reason, we want to let you know that Council is always here for you. Our mission as your Northshore PTSA Council is to support the work you do at the local PTA level. Our Board of Directors consists of PTA leaders with a wealth of experience at schools across the Northshore School District with a variety of PTA experience at the local, council, regional and state level. As such, we have many resources that can help you navigate the day-to-day PTA work, as well as the unexpected, including:
Our 2024-2025 Council team is ready to help you continue to do amazing things for our students, families, schools, and communities. Wishing you a fantastic school year! Grace Jurado President, Northshore Council PTSA 6.10 [email protected]
