Focus Day

Picture
Focus Day is Thursday, January 24, 2013. Make plans now to attend! The organizers have a blog-  http://wsptafocusday.blogspot.com/, and you can follow them on Twitter --@FocusDay2013. They have a video posted from Rep. Ross Hunter about the importance of Focus Day. This year is especially important due to budget issues, the McCleary decision and the newly elected legislators who will be taking office. Wa State PTA is planning to maximize virtual participation because we are 140,000 members strong and we need to let Olympia know we expect a 21st Century education for our children. As the oldest and largest child advocacy organization, we need to flex our muscle a bit!
So mark your calendars now and plan on making your voice heard. If you have been before- that's great- you can be a leader! If you haven't been before, plan on having a great day advocating for children. Just show up! No special expertise needed. We will be attempting to set up appointments with our legislators, stay tuned for more information on that.

We aren't going to have a bus this year so plan to carpool with your PTA friends!

Legislative Assembly

Picture
More than 300 PTA members gathered to decide the Washington State PTA legislative agenda for the 2013 and 2014 State Legislative Sessions.

The top 5 priority issues are:
1.  Advance Basic Education Reforms
2.  Fund Education First
3.  Closing the Opportunity Gaps
4.  Revenue for Kids
5.  Access to Highly Effective Teachers

Delegates also voted in support of nine other issues and rejected four  issues.  For additional details, click here.
