Summer's Coming! Get ready for Northshore Council PTSA's Recognition Breakfast! - Thursday, June 6th
Our 2019 Spring Recognition Breakfast is scheduled for
THURSDAY, JUNE 6, 2019!!!

Join us in Haynes Hall at McMenamins Anderson School (in Bothell) this June.  The event will run from 9:30am - 11:30am.  This is a district wide event that gives local PTAs the opportunity to treat their award winners to a lovely meal and a morning out among their peers.

McMenamin's Anderson School
18607 Bothell Way NE
Bothell, WA

Local PTAs typically will invite their principal, executive team and their local award winners (e.g., Golden Acorn, Outstanding Educator, Outstanding Advocate, etc.). 'Official' invites will be available soon, but in order to allow their honored guests time to plan for the event, local PTAs are encouraged to begin making their invitations to administrators and board members now and to award winners as soon as they have been announced.

Traditionally, each Local PTA is responsible for the cost of its attendees. The cost this year is $20/person.

Please write a check for your whole group to Northshore Council PTSA.

WSPTA Recognizes Northshore PTAs!

4/29/2019

Each year, Washington State PTA recognizes the work of PTAs and Councils across the state via their Awards of Excellence Program. Many Northshore PTAs submitted applications and were celebrated for their efforts at the annual Convention in Sea-Tac, April 26-28, 2019.

Awards work to celebrate the efforts of local PTAs and Councils in a variety of different areas. The criteria reflect a strong knowledge and application of best practices and the submission process can be rigorous. These awards are truly reflective of the dedication and strength of these PTAs and the  powerful contributions they make in their communities.

Tuesday, May 7, 2019 | 6:30 - 8pm

at Woodin Elementary
(12950 Northeast 195th Street Bothell, WA 98011)

Educator Robin Wright will lead this seminar which provides parents with information and skills on how to start conversations, what to cover at each age, and how to answer tricky questions. The physical, emotional and social changes of puberty are also reviewed to help parents feel better prepared and know what to expect.

Picture
Mark your calendars for our final Northshore Council PTSA General Membership Meeting of 2018-19! It will be on Monday, May 6th at the Woodinville High School Library. We'll be hosting a meet and greet starting at 6:30pm and the meeting will begin at 7pm.

In addition to all of the normal updates and information sharing, we'll be voting on a new budget, awarding our Golden Acorn, and there will be some Spring training opportunities! Training will begin at 8pm. Classes options will include:
  • Secretary: More than Just Minutes - find out what you need to know to about the role of secretary, including the various responsibilities, taking minutes and keeping organized.
  • Treasurer Basics - get the nitty gritty on the role of treasurer, including best practices, legal requirements and more.
  • Tackling Transitions - learn about best practices and how to make the transition from outgoing board to incoming board a smooth one.
  • Navigating a Meeting - participate in a mock meeting and learn all the ins and outs of running a meeting, including how to make Roberts Rules of Order work for your PTA.
Each of these WSPTA-approved training classes can be used to meet the 2019-20 officer training requirement as mandated by the WSPTA Uniform Bylaws.

Each PTA may send up to 4 voting representatives-- but we encourage ALL who are interested to attend.

We hope you join us!

Washington State PTA's annual Convention is scheduled to take place April 26-28, 2019, at the Sea-Tac Hilton Convention Center. Schedules, class descriptions, registration information, and more are available on the WSPTA website.

Convention offers the best selection of classes you'll find all year! *AND* classes taken at convention can be used to fulfill your training requirement for next year (2019-20)!

Meet-up with Council during General Sessions!
Northshore Council is looking forward to connecting with you and being a part of your Convention experience! Come sit with us during the General Sessions (look for the Region 6 signs-- we'll be there with a big basket of snacks to share!).
Northshore Council Convention Dinner - 4/26
We invite Northshore convention participants to join us at Northshore Council's dinner/open house on Friday, April 26th starting at 7pm! This dinner is a Northshore Council PTSA tradition at Convention and is FREE to all convention participants from NSD PTAs. The dinner will take place at the hotel and will include gluten-free and vegetarian options-- more details to come!

Let us know that you are coming to Convention so we can connect with you and share details as they become available (and so we can be sure to have enough food if you are joining us for dinner!). RSVP with your name, PTA, and a number we can text you at (if available) to Robin Zaback.
Volunteer and Earn FREE Registration!
There are also opportunities to volunteer and earn FREE registration! Volunteers:
  • Must commit to three hours on Friday or Saturday or one and a half hours on Sunday if they are interested in free registration. (Free registration is only for the day of volunteering.)

  • Are responsible for their own hotel accommodations.

Note: Policy allows for only one volunteer from a local PTA or council to serve as a voting delegate for that PTA.

PTA Reflections: Northshore National Qualifiers
CONGRATULATIONS again to our 47 Northshore students who qualified for state-level judging!

Washington State PTA judged over 900 pieces of art and the competition was tough. The results are in and we have ten students who placed at the state level, three of whom achieved Outstanding Interpretation and will continue onto National PTA for further judging. Student entries submitted to the national level go through two more rounds of review by esteemed arts professionals across the country before the winners are decided.
