May 20, 2024 Membership Meeting Recap

On May 20, 2024, Northshore Council PTSA held a virtual General Membership Meeting. We would like to say thank you to all of the local leaders from across the Northshore School District, as well as community and school partners for taking the time to join us!

Presentation
At the start of the meeting, NSD Deputy Superintendent and Chief Financial Officer JoLynn Berge provided an update on the 2024-2025 Northshore School District Budget and answered questions. There will likely be an increase in fees for use of facilities. 

Community Partners

• Elisabeth Sotak, School Board Director 
  On May 29, Conversations with the Board will be held at Inglemoor High School in the library. The focus will be on problem solving the budget issues such as elementary/middle school sports.  Also, she asked for help to spread the word about contacting representatives in Olympia in regards to underfunding education.  Next year there will be some shifting of school board meeting times to make them more accessible to attend. Check the NSD website for updated times. 
  
  
• Marco Garcia, Community Partnerships & Volunteering Coordinator
  NSD is working on updates for the Safe Visitor system.

Council Business 

• Ashley Russell was elected to the position as 2024-2025 Co-VP of Events. Council will continue to seek volunteers for the OPEN board positions to hold an election at a future General Membership Meeting.
• Budget for 2024-2025 was presented to membership and passed.

 Announcements

• The Spring Recognition event will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at Eastside Church. An RSVP form has been emailed to local PTA Presidents.
• Plan for PTA transitions – Northshore Council can help. Contact VPs of Support for more information. 
• Council sent delegates to the Annual WSPTA Convention which was held on May 17-19 in Lynnwood. 12 Bylaws passed, 2 amended resolutions, and one new resolution regarding civics and voting. There was lots of great training sessions attended. 
  • At this year's Convention, Northshore Council PTSA was named the 2023-2024 PTA of the Year. We also received:
    • Platinum Award for Standards of Excellence
    • Gold Award for Outstanding Communication Strategies
    • Gold Award for Outstanding Website
    • Silver Award for Outstanding Newsletter
